Managing gift cards through eCom (E-Series)

Managing and issuing gift cards through Lightspeed eCom (E-Series) provides flexibility for both you and your customers. This article outlines how to enable, track, and apply gift cards for use through Loyal Action or Lightspeed Retail (R-Series), when purchased by your customers through your eCom store.

Managing gift cards between Retail POS and eCom

This section is not applicable if you are only managing gift cards through Loyal Action.

Managing gift cards across Retail POS (R-Series) and eCom (E-Series) allows for a seamless experience, enabling customers to purchase and redeem them both in-store and online. Gift cards set up in Retail POS can be made available in eCom. Logging in to Lightspeed eCom (E-Series)

Log in to your eCom account to manage gift card sales.

  1. Log in to your Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) account.
  2. Click Retail (R-Series) from the top left corner of the page, then select eCom (E-Series) from the dropdown list to open your eCom account.

Enabling admin notifications

Admin notifications should be enabled in eCom to ensure you receive alerts for each online gift card sale.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Notifications in your eCom (E-Series) store.
  2. Enable Admin notifications for New order placed.

Issuing gift cards sold through eCom

Lightspeed eCom or Retail

Gift cards purchased by your customers through eCom will be automatically managed according to the initial balance and recipient email that the purchaser entered at the time of checkout. More information can be found in the Lightspeed Retail (R-Series) Help Center.

Loyal Action

Issuing Loyal Action gift cards is best done by logging into your Loyal Action account directly. Then, once it has been issued, it can be shared with the customer for them to use whenever applicable.

  1. Log in to your Loyal Action account.
  2. Select Gift Cards from the left menu.

  3. Click Manually create a gift card.

  4. Enter the Card number and Initial balance.
    • Any alphanumeric characters can be used as the card number.
    • Enable the Activate? check box if the gift card should be activated immediately.
    • Optionally, set the Location and Invoice Number.

  5. You will be taken to the gift card's status page, where you can further manage and track usage.

Redeeming gift cards

Customers can only redeem eCom gift cards towards future eCom sales. More information can be found in the eCom (E-Series) help center.

However, Loyal Action gift cards can be redeemed towards sales in Retail POS (R-Series) or Restaurant POS (L-Series). More information can be found in the Using Loyal Action gift cards in Restaurant POS, and Using Loyal Action gift cards in Retail POS articles, respectively.

Updating eCom order status

Updating the order's status in eCom after managing their gift card ensures clear tracking and communication with customers and staff.

You may want to create and assign a custom order status, as the default order statuses relate to physical product sales.

  1. Log in to your eCom (E-Series) account.
  2. Navigate to My Sales > Orders in your eCom admin panel.
  3. Locate and select the specific order.
  4. Click on the status dropdown menu and choose the appropriate status, such as Completed or Processed, or a custom order status.
