Hi. How can we help?

Keeping your Lightspeed Golf account secure

Provided information is for general informational purposes only and should not be considered legal advice. You should consult with your own legal counsel for requirements governing your specific circumstances.

Impersonation and phishing attempts are common tactics used to scam business owners and employees. Scammers may pose as Lightspeed representatives and try to trick you into sharing sensitive information, providing access to your account, or moving funds.

Lightspeed will never ask you to:

  • Move funds or change your settlement account to an unfamiliar account.
  • Share passwords or multi-factor authentication (MFA) codes.
  • Act quickly to limit your time to think or verify the request.
  • Keep a security matter confidential from family members or law enforcement.

If you receive a request like this, it is not from Lightspeed.

If you suspect someone might be using your Lightspeed Golf, Retail, or Restaurant account without permission, follow the steps to take if your account may have been compromised.

It’s important to follow security best practices and take steps to keep your Lightspeed accounts secure to help protect your business online.

Managing fraudulent communications

If you receive communication that appears suspicious:

  • Don’t panic.
  • Don’t click or share.
  • Don’t engage.

If something feels off, verify the request directly through an official Lightspeed Help Center or Support channel before taking action. If you suspect your account may be compromised, follow the instructions in the Steps to take if your account may have been compromised section.

Managing users and permissions

Setting up users with appropriate permissions for their role and regularly reviewing access are important parts of keeping your account secure.

Employee profiles, roles, permissions, passwords, and access removal are managed separately in Lightspeed Golf, Lightspeed Retail (R-Series), Lightspeed Restaurant (K-Series), and Lightspeed Restaurant (L-Series).

When creating or updating an employee profile in Lightspeed Golf, it’s important to:

  • Create one login per user: Use individual logins to view account activity, control permissions, and remove access when needed. Don’t share login information, even when employees have the same role.
  • Set appropriate permissions: Give each employee the minimum level of access required to perform their job.

Regularly review who has access to each account:

  • Review permissions: Confirm that current employees have only the access required for their roles in each product.
  • Monitor access: Review access to Lightspeed Golf, Retail (R-Series), Restaurant (K-Series), Restaurant (L-Series), other systems, devices, and physical business spaces.
  • Revoke access: When someone leaves your business, including contractors and partners, deactivate or delete their user profile in each applicable product so they can no longer access your data.

Creating strong passwords

A strong password helps protect your account from unauthorized access. Scammers use databases of common passwords and automated programs to target weak or reused credentials.

Passwords should be:

Strong

  • Long, multi-word phrases with special characters are easier to remember but harder to guess.
  • Avoid personal and business-related information like birthdates, phone numbers, and system names like “Lightspeed.”

Unique

  • If a scammer figures out your reused password, they can access your other accounts.
  • Use different passwords for all of your email, banking, Lightspeed, and other accounts.

Private

  • Sharing passwords increases risk and makes it more difficult to track actions, like who accessed sensitive information or changed settings.
  • When setting up a computer, POS, Wi-Fi network, or other system or device, immediately change the default password.

Secure

  • Use a trusted password manager to create, manage, and safeguard passwords for you.
  • Implement multi-factor authentication to add an extra layer of security. For example, use time-sensitive codes from an MFA app (like Microsoft Authenticator) to verify login attempts.

Never share passwords or security codes with anyone.

If you think your Lightspeed Golf password may have been shared or compromised, follow the steps to reset your Lightspeed Golf password immediately.

Steps to take if your account may have been compromised

If you suspect someone might be using your Lightspeed Golf, Retail, or Restaurant account without permission, or if you’ve received a password reset or verification email from Lightspeed that you didn’t request, someone may be trying to access your account.

The first and most important step is to act quickly, but don’t panic. Scammers rely on fear and false urgency to pressure you into acting impulsively.

Each product has its own login page and access-management settings. Secure each applicable account directly in its own product.

  1. Secure your Lightspeed Golf account. Follow the steps to reset your Lightspeed Golf password. If you received an unexpected password reset or verification email, do not use links in the message. Open the official Golf login page and reset your password from there.

  5. Secure associated accounts and software. Change the password for the email account associated with Lightspeed Golf and any connected Retail or Restaurant account. Also change passwords for associated app integrations.
  6. Update your devices and software. Run a system scan if you suspect malware, update your computer, iPad, and other devices, and install the latest versions of your browser and apps.

Keeping your Lightspeed Golf account secure

Cybersecurity is a continuous process, not a one-time event. Regularly verify that you and your staff follow security best practices, and update your security policies as threats evolve.

Follow these security best practices:

  • Be prepared: Stay informed, train your staff, and plan for realistic business risks.
  • Secure your setup: Keep device software updated, use strong and unique passwords, enable MFA where supported, and manage and monitor access separately in each product.
  • Manage your online presence: Click with caution, review account settings, and manage what you share online.
